Strategic Review

I have delivered a range of strategic projects including:

• independent evaluation of housing management and maintenance Contracts together with advice on next steps;
• taking on the role of critical friend to a metropolitan authority as they reviewed the scope for closer alignment with their ALMO in order to improve efficiency;
• identification of a strategic partner for large national housing association - leading to merger;
• guiding the executive team of a charity to evaluate the benefits of merger with a housing association - leading to merger;  
• evaluation of the scope for partnership working with registered housing providers, for charities and private sector businesses;
• development of procurement strategy and establishment of procurement function - leading to streamlined purchasing and significant cost savings.

Effective Governance & Regulatory Compliance

Effective governance is an essential feature of any successful organisation. Compliance with the Homes & Communities Agency Regulatory Standards is vital for successful Registered Providers. I am highly experienced in working with Boards, and have led a number of governance/compliance projects including:

• guiding organisations through the process of Registration with the Homes & Communities Agency, most recently County Durham Housing Group;
• preparing  Assessments of Compliance with the HCA's Regulatory Standards and NHF Code of Governance 2015, most recently for Adler Housing;
• ensuring effective governance arrangements were put in place to convert from ALMO to Housing Association;
• advice and guidance on the way Intra Group Agreements work in practice;
• delivery of a programme of board renewal to meet the governance standards set out in Excellence in Governance; and
• recruitment of new board members and appointment of Chair.

Performance Improvement

I have a track record of delivering improvements in performance for key areas of housing association business including void management, rental income, the repairs service; and reducing unit costs. My focus is on delivering improvements in quality without increasing costs. My approach is to work with operational staff to devise simple Performance Improvement Plans which staff can own and take credit for.

Recent projects include:

• the design of Thirteen Group's award winning Support to Stay initiative; 
• mapping customer contact arrangements across a whole local authority in preparation for the design of digitial services.

I have experience in designing and implementing strategies which put your customers first, and which enable customers to access services at a time and place of their choice.

Interim Management

I have experience of leading and being part of an executive team. I can quickly to grasp an organisation's priorities and focus on furthering its aims. Throughout my career I have worked with independent board members,  reporting directly to them, as well as working in a regulatory capacity. I have a particular understanding of how organisational groups work; and of what's required in organisations during transition and during pre and post merger phases.
